One Calendar One Life

In 2008 the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign was established in partnership with the United Nations Foundation to provide JCI members with the opportunity to take action against malaria through education and fundraising in their communities.

Thousands of JCI members around the world have committed to raise funds to donate one million bed nets by 2015 and JCI Leeds chose to produce a charity calendar to support the campaign and help eradicate malaria.

12 members of JCI Leeds wore ‘nothing but nets’ to feature in the calendar with the target of raising £10,000 through sales and other fundraising activities. The calendar also aims to raise the profile of the campaign and how buying bed nets is a really simple and effective way to eradicate malaria.

2010 President, JCI Leeds, Claire Dempster said:

"Our vision is to raise enough funds to buy 1,000 bed nets. For every calendar we sell, we can buy a bet net – by buying a calendar for just £10, you can simply save someone’s life.

Everyone involved in the project, from the photographer and graphic designer, the project team and those featured in the calendar are members of JCI Leeds.

Supporting this project means that not only are you saving lives in Africa but also supporting young people who are working hard to create positive change in their communities – buy a calendar today."

Annual Business Lecture

Entitled "Making sense of a social networking world", this year's business lecture sought to help attendees understand how they could utilise social media.

The event was held at Leeds Metropolitan University's new business school "The Rose Bowl", with Steve Parks, a former BBC radio journalist and member of JCI Leeds. Steve interviewed the panel of social media specialists which consisted of Dan Evans: Co-founder of V Social, Christine Morris: Founder of Apps and Hats, Will Kintish: Leading networking and LinkedIn training authority and Patrick Crane: Vice President of Marketing at LinkedIn who joined us from Silicon Valley via Skype.

Over 80 guests attended with the majority being non-JCI members. The event was a huge success both commercially and in terms of feedback with one guest saying it was the best JCI event they had ever been to!

The lecture also received the "Best Business Project" award the JCI Yorkshire 2010 Regional Awards and received a Certificate of Merit in the category for Best Business Project at the JCI UK 2010 National Awards.
